What is the World Cup?

The World Cup is the premier international football tournament, held every 4 years. The World Cup is the biggest tournament in football where national teams compete for the title of world champion. It is the most-watched sporting event globally. Watch live and loud at selected venues with a cocktail (or 2) in hand!

When and where is the World Cup 2026?

2026 will be the first-ever 48-team tournament, which will take place across Canada, Mexico and the United States from Thursday, 11th June to Sunday, 19th July 2026.

When did the World Cup start?

The first official World Cup was played in Uruguay in 1930!

Which countries have won the World Cup the most?

Brazil has won the most FIFA World Cup titles with five victories, followed by Germany and Italy, who have four titles each, and Argentina with three wins, making them the most successful nations in the tournament's history.

How does the World Cup Tournament Work?

The World Cup is organised in two main stages: the Qualification phase and the Finals Tournament. For 2026 , the tournament will expand to 48 teams, divided into 12 groups of four. The top two teams from each group, along with the best third-place finishers, advance to a Round of 32, followed by a single-elimination knockout phase that culminates in the Final.

The competition begins with qualifying matches to determine which national teams earn a place, and concludes with a month-long finals event featuring group round-robin play and then knockout matches, with extra time and penalties used to decide ties and ultimately crown the champion.
