Q. How do I apply for a vacancy at Slug and Lettuce?

Q. How long does it take to let me know if I have been successful?
A. We’ll contact you as soon as we’re in a position to make a decision. We’ll agree timescales at your interview.
Q. Does Slug and Lettuce promote from within?
A. Absolutely! In fact over 50% of our management and head office staff started off as front of house staff. We want our people to do well and there are no limits as to how far you can progress.
Q. How old must I be to work at Slug and Lettuce?
A. 18 years old or over.
Q. What should I expect through the application process?
A. Kitchen / front of house staff – The individual site will contact you regarding you application within 14 days. Managers – Our Recruitment and Training Manager will contact you regarding your application with in 14 days
Q. What do I need to wear to work?
A. We’ll supply you with a t–shirt or shirt to wear. You’ll then need to team this with black trousers and shoes.
Q. How do you go about selecting people?
A. Slug and Lettuce is a diverse organisation so there are no set personality profiles for being a Slug and Lettuce person. However, it’s a fast-moving environment so we do tend to recruit people who like to be given responsibility and scope to try new ideas, and who can cope with being ‘thrown in at the deep end’.
Q. What kind of shifts will I be working?
A. Although opening times vary, our bars are typically open during the day through to later on in the evening. Some offer late night opening. We ensure that we schedule all shifts according to your needs and the needs of the business.
Q. I applied to Slug and Lettuce a while ago and was unsuccessful. Can I reapply?
A. Yes, after 6 months – unless your circumstances have changed. Meaning?? Meaning that if some one has applied for a managers position and they were unsuccessful on that occasion, they can re apply after 6 months or if there circumstances have change – move to the right area for a vacant position, returned to the country etc…
Q. What opportunities are there for career progression?
A. There are always opportunities within our business. If you follow the personal development training this will assist your progression. We’ll send an internal vacancy list to your site on a weekly basis.
Q. What kind of training can I expect?
A. Weekly paid team members: On your first day you’ll need to complete some basic food hygiene training along with our service, standards & health and safety training. You’ll then receive additional on–job coaching. Salaried General Managers: Before you take to your site, you’ll complete an induction programme at one of our training houses.
Q. Is there a pension plan I can join?
A. We operate a stakeholder pension scheme for over 25’s.
Q. What documents should I provide as proof of eligibility to work in the UK?
A. Copy of photo ID – e.g. a passport – plus proof of work permit if appropriate.
